New Boston Hires Kathie Vieira as Interim Town Administrator
The Select Board voted unanimously in last night’s meeting to hire Kathie Vieira as Interim Town Administrator under a one-year contract.
Kathie, who has been the Highway Maintenance and Project Coordinator in the Town’s Highway Department since 2021, has been serving in the Interim Town Administrator role on a month-to-month temporary basis for the past three months.
After running a comprehensive search process which saw 22 applications and four rounds of interviews, the Select Board decided the best way to meet the Town’s upcoming goals was to extend a one-year contract to Kathie as Interim. This will provide a relatively seamless transition for staff and the Board to dive into the 2026 budget process and continue building on some of the transparency and public engagement initiatives that helped the budget gain support last year. In the spring of 2026, the Board will evaluate whether to offer the permanent Town Administrator position to Kathie and/or to run another search process.
This decision comes alongside several other recent changes in administration the Select Board has recently made that will help support all aspects of the Town’s operations. Maralyn Segien, who has been the Town’s Executive Assistant and Human Resources Director and Assessing Clerk since 2022 was recently promoted to Assistant Town Administrator, in recognition of the responsibility that she has gained over time and the support she will provide of administration going forward. Additionally, Jennifer Webber, who has been the Select Board’s Assistant and Assessing Assistant since 2024, was made full-time, allowing her more time to support the Board’s initiatives and especially help create public communication and engagement programs.
Select Board Chair Bill McFadden notes “With Kathie, Maralyn, and Jen working together, they will offer the dynamic in which the town can move forward in a positive manner. The Board is looking forward to working with this team.”
Kathie Vieira notes she is excited to take on this opportunity and looks forward to working with all of the departments and residents. If anything is needed, she is here to help.
Alex Torpey from Rethink Local, whose company managed the recruitment process and has been providing Interim Town Administrator consultative support to the Town, stated “The Town has made several really smart choices recently in structuring a very capable administration. Kathie will do great things leading the team that already has a track record of working so well together.”
Kathie’s first day under the new agreement is September 8th. The Select Board extends a congratulations to Kathie and thanked all of the applicants for their interest and time.
